Roy de Clercq passed away December 4th 2023.
Born in 1935, Roy grew up in Cartierville and joined the Cartierville Boating Club at an early age.
He paddled war canoe and C-4 and won his share of races.
He stroked the winning C-4 in the North American Championships in 1960.
Roy was also a member of the winning senior war canoe that same year, 1960.
He coached the Cartierville juvenile war canoes in 1965 and 1966. His practices were known to be well-structured; as well, his preparation of his
crew before regattas was excellent.
He was well-like and even today mentioning his name to ex-paddlers conjures up fond memories of him.
Roy married Jill Alexander and they had two children: Alexander (Sandy) and Kim.
